Professional experience

Dr. Mohammad Saber Hashemi is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Mike Wiegers Department of Biomedical, Electrical, and Computer Engineering at Kansas State University. He earned his Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics and M.Sc. in Computer Science from Iowa State University in 2023, where he developed machine learning frameworks for scientific computing and novel material design with biomedical applications. Prior to joining K-State, he was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, Irvine, where he co-led NIH-funded research on cardiac flow dynamics and developed AI-based tools for 4D echocardiographic image analysis.

Research

Dr. Hashemi’s research lies at the intersection of biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, and advanced materials, with emphasis on translational health technologies and biomanufacturing. His work spans:

  • AI-driven design of biomaterials and multifunctional composites
  • Scientific computing and machine learning for material discovery
  • Computer vision and deep learning for biomedical imaging
  • Development of diagnostic software and health technologies
  • Applications in cardiovascular systems, personalized medicine, and prosthetics

Dr. Hashemi is the co-inventor of a patented tunable stiffness bone rod and has published extensively in journals such as Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids. He serves as a reviewer for journals including Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology. His honors include the ISU Zaffarano Prize, Research and Teaching Excellence Awards, and membership in Sigma Xi.
