Professional experience

Buxin She was a (Senior) Research Engineer in Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) from 2023 to 2025, where he leaded two PNNL Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) projects, one focusing on resilience analysis of cyber-physical (power) system and one on stability characterization of power electronics-dominant power system. He also co-leads one project sponsored by the DOE Wind Energy Technologies Office (WETO). In 2022, he worked as a research intern at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL).

He serves as the chair of the IEEE PES Task Force on Virtual Inertia Scheduling and Control for IBR-dominant Power Systems. He is also the Sub-Team Lead of the Modeling Requirements and Data Collection Sub-team within the ESIG Large Loads Task Force. He serves as an Associate Editor of IEEE Data Description and was a Guest Editor of International Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems (IJEPES) and IET Renewable Power Generation. He is also a member of the Young Advisory Board of ECE Energy Conversion and Economics and the Chinese Journal of Electrical Engineering (CJEE).

Research

His research interests focus on advancing power systems through inverter-based resources (IBRs) and artificial intelligence (AI) to enable secure, resilient, and economical power supply. Specifically, his current work encompasses the following areas:

  • Modeling, control, and stability analysis of IBRs
  • Dynamics-informed operation of low-inertia power grid
  • AI-driven power system control and optimization
