Professional experience

Buxin She was a (Senior) Research Engineer in Pacific Northwest National Laboratory from 2023 to 2025, where he led two PNNL Laboratory Directed Research and Development projects, one focusing on resilience analysis of cyber-physical power systems and one on stability characterization of power electronics-dominant power system. He also co-led a project sponsored by the DOE Wind Energy Technologies Office. In 2022, he worked as a research intern at Argonne National Laboratory.

He serves as the chair of the IEEE PES Task Force on Virtual Inertia Scheduling and Control for IBR-dominant Power Systems. He is also the Sub-Team Lead of the Modeling Requirements and Data Collection Sub-team within the ESIG Large Loads Task Force. He serves as an associate editor of IEEE Data Description and was a guest editor of International Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems and IET Renewable Power Generation. He is also a member of the Young Advisory Board of ECE Energy Conversion and Economics and the Chinese Journal of Electrical Engineering.

Research

His research interests focus on advancing power systems through inverter-based resources (IBRs) and artificial intelligence to enable secure, resilient and economical power supply. Specifically, his current work encompasses the following areas:

  • Modeling, control and stability analysis of IBRs.
  • Dynamics-informed operation of low-inertia power grids.
  • AI-driven power system control and optimization.
